Fraud is on the rise in the UK, with a 25% increase from pre-pandemic levels in the year to March 2022. More recently, fraudsters have been adapting their tactics to exploit the rising cost of living.
The top tips are as follows:
Tip 1
Don’t rush. Carefully review emails and messages to ensure they’re genuine. Spelling errors, sloppy layouts and informal greetings are al the tell-tale signs of a scam.
Tip 2
Use official channels. Never send money to anyone you don’t know. Instead, confirm the legitimacy of suspicious messages or phone calls by calling the organisation directly.
Tip 3
Bolster your protection. Clicking on fraudulent web links could release malware onto your device. Ensure antivirus software is up to date, and exercise caution before opening suspect links.
Tip 4
Check websites are genuine. Always check that the links are secure – Look for “https” and a padlock symbol in the domain bar.
